Financial Aid

Essex Rowing is committed to making rowing accessible to student-athletes and adult rowers from all backgrounds, regardless of financial means. We are able to accomplish this goal by bridging the gap between what a family can afford and the actual cost of an Essex Rowing season for qualifying participants. We understand the difficulty in financing a rowing season and the associated travel and competitive fees, and will do all that we can to help make this athletic opportunity possible. Aid is awarded without regard to race, color, or national or ethnic origin, and without regard for gender, sexual orientation, creed, or scholastic affiliation. Consequently, we are proud to have awarded over $260,000.00 in financial aid to athletes since the organization’s inception in November 2006.

Those interested in applying for financial aid should email financialaid@essexrowing.org. Applications for financial aid should include a statement of the amount aid requested and a payment plan detailing how the balance of tuition will be paid. Applications should be submitted as early as possible, and no later than one week prior to a program’s registration deadline. Applications received after that date will be considered for as long as space remains in the program.

Essex Rowing does not offer financial aid for rowing clothing and uniforms, though club uniforms are available at no cost to those requesting them. These uniforms must be returned in same or similar condition within one week of the last competitive event each season.

Attendance

Participants are expected to attend all practices if possible. However, we expecte there will be instances where attendance is not possible, especially in the summer when athletes are in and out of town for vacation. In that case, athletes are responsible for notifing their coach well in advance if they cannot attend a session. Rowing is a team sport and boats are for two, four, and eight-person crews plus one coxswain. The unexpected absence of one may prohibit the ability of others to practice as planned. With this in mind, individuals that habitually miss team practices without advance notification will be expelled from the team without any refund of dues.
